Educational technology is using multiple technology forms inside or outside of a classroom for educational purposes. Educational technology promotes the use of communication, motivation and time management skills into learning core subjects in school. This can exist during class time or as homework for the particular class.
I envision technology’s role in 21st century classrooms to be a guiding source for education. I envision teachers still being the primary education course, but technology will be a secondary source for students to go to for additional help. For example, teachers will teach lessons to their students with up-to-date technology vocabulary. New smart boards are able to be incorporated in a lesson, so teachers can display the technology students are using and can explain how to navigate through it. Also, teachers can break up a class period by incorporating projects and assignments with computers. Computers can be used to type essays instead of hand-writing them, watch educational videos, interconnect to form group projects, and assign classwork or homework.
Benefits of technology in a classroom include the communication of students within the same school, district, or even world. Technology allows students to communicate with students and teachers within the classroom, school district, and world. Also, technology allows software and hardware to be shared in schools. For example, teachers and administrators can share grades and attendance records of students.
A potential drawback of technology in a classroom include using the technology for inappropriate reasons. For example, students can be going on social media during classwork instead of being on the specific site the lesson requires. Also, students can use technology in schools to communicate with each other for negative reasons. This includes planning to skip class or planing fights.
